How to set the Size of the Focus Points on the Olympus OM-D
Out of the box, the focus point size on the Olympus OM-D E-M5 is set to a rather large rectangle. For instances like wildlife or bird photography, the size of the focus point can be changed on the Olympus OM-D E-M5 to achieve more precise focus.
The size of the focus point is changed on the LCD not thru the menus. Once it is changed, the camera will save the setting until the focus point size is changed again. The smaller focus point size is visible on the LCD and the electronic view finder.
Steps to Change the Focus Point Size
1. Press the Info button on the back of the camera.
2. On the LCD, press the touch screen icons buttons until it displays the tap to focus icon. With this setting, the camera will focus at the location you touch on the LCD. See the table below for descriptions of the touch screen options.
3. If the scale for the size of the focus points (magnification) does not display, touch anywhere on the LCD screen to bring up the scale. Touch the point on the scale that you wish to select. There are 4 selections on the scale 5X, 7, 10, 14 with 5X being the largest focus point and 14 being the smallest.
I keep my OM-D set on the smallest focus point setting (14) and single AF Target mode for more precise focusing.
