Should You Use Wasabi Power Batteries for Your Digital Camera?
The price of manufacturer brand batteries are outrageously high. The price for an Olympus brand battery for my OM-D E-M5 is $56.00. Due to the high price and the low number of shots per charge using the Olympus OM-D, I decided to try the Wasabi Power batteries for my OM-D.
The Wasabi Power Battery (2-Pack) on Amazon.Com comes with 2 batteries, a charger, a car charger adapter, and a European wall plug. The price for the 2 battery Wasabi battery pack is $23.99 versus the $56.00 for a single Olympus brand Battery.
I tested the Wasabi Powers batteries on my recent trip overseas to India. Since the Wasabi batteries cannot be charged in the Olympus charger, I only brought the 2 Wasabi batteries and the Wasabi charger on the trip. I did not bring along an Olympus brand battery.
Battery Performance
Overall, the Wasabi batteries performed well. I got between 400-500 shots per charge. This is comparable to the performance of the Olympus brand batteries. The number of shots per charge varied on how frequently I left the camera and LCD on between shots. This wasn’t enough for a full day of shooting, so make sure you have at least two batteries fully charged.
110 – 240 Volt Compatibility
The charger also worked on the 230 volt India power using only a plug adapter. The plug is built right into the Wasabi charger so it doesn’t need a power cord like the Olympus charger. I like this design better as it is one less item I need to pack and carry when traveling.
