Setting Up WiFi on the Olympus OM-D E-M1

Unlike its predecessor, the Olympus OM-D E-M1 comes with built in WiFi.  This is a new feature for Olympus that was first introduced with the Olympus E-P5.  The WiFi on the Olympus OM-D E-M1 has 4 features.

  • Remote Control
  • Photo transfer to your mobile device
  • Photo Editing
  • Adding Geotags to your photos

I will be writing detailed blogs about using these features.  For this blog, I will be focusing on how to set up Wi-Fi on the OM-D E-M1

I found that WiFi was easy to set up on the Olympus OM-D E-M1. In fact, it was much easier to set up than on my Canon 6d.  Below are the steps for both the initial set up and how to set up Wi-Fi for subsequent uses.

Topaz Labs

Initial WiFi Setup (iOS):

  • Power on the camera and select WiFi from the upper left portion of the LCD.  A QR Code will appear.
  • Launch the Olympus Image Share App on your mobile device
  • Press the Camera/WiFi Icon at the Bottom of the app.  Select Easy Setup
  • Scan the QR Code using the App.
  • Once the App recognizes the QR code, Press Install on the screen that comes up.
  • On the iPhone / iPad, Press Install on the Install Profile page
  • Enter your phone passcode
  • Once installed, Go to settings on your mobile device and select the OM-D E-M1 network
  • Launch the Olympus Image Share App on your mobile device

For Subsequent Access to WiFi

After the initial setup, the mobile device will remember the WiFi address of the OM-D.  Here are the steps for using Wi-Fi after the initial set up.

  • Power on the camera and select WiFi from the LCD
  • Go to settings on your mobile device and select the OM-D E-M1
  • Launch the Olympus Image Share App on your mobile device

Do you know how to deal with an error that says "profile not signed"? It won't let me connect to the app for this reason… Thanks!

Thanks, works fine on my android tablet but I too get a complaint about a "profile not signed" on our iPhone. Since I'm not a fan of Apple that is not a big deal but I am curious how to work around it. This is almost a gimmick for me but it might be useful for photographing my feathered visitors.

Thanks for posting this, the manual confused me.

When I try to install on an iPhone 5S (ios 9.2.1) with OMD EM10 (firmware v1.3) I get at error saying "the profile is not signed"  Nothin more happens after that.  The ony options are "Try Again" which results in the same error, or "Cancel" which goes back to the start.   How do yo get past the "nor signed" error?

For all those like me. I was frustrated with the OIS that did not work im my M-1. I searched on the web and find out nothing. Not even the Olympus technician helped me. My problem was that I set up my iPhone an my M-1 and then disconnected in a minute. What I did, and hope It helps to all of you, turn your iPhone on airport mode, then turn on wi-fi then connect to your camera and it stays connected all the time. It worked for me super well. Thanks.

I also need help with connecting.  It keeps telling me on my iphone profile not signed and the ball stops there.  I understand there is a workaround for this.  I would appreciate it if you could send me the procedure

    thanks

I have tried everything with my Google Pixel to connect.  It scans the barcode, it reads "Loading" for a long time and then says no camera found.

When I start my wifi (private or just once) it will start but then stop automatically. Does anyone know what the problem is here, and how I can get to the GR-code?
