Touring the Midcoast of Maine – Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens
It’s hard to imagine getting tired of the quaint coastal villages and picturesque white lighthouses of the midcoast of Maine. But if you’re looking for something different to do and photograph, check out the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens.
The botanical gardens are located along the Back River about 10 minutes from Boothbay Harbor. The address for the gardens is 132 Botanical Gardens Drive, Boothbay, Maine.
The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens have nearly 250 acres of both forest trails and flower gardens. Some of the unique gardens located in the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens are:
- The Vayo Meditation Garden with stone benches and the treeline opening to the sky above the garden.
- The Fairy House Village where you can create your own fairy architecture out of the forest’s natural materials

Some of the other gardens at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens where you can see and photograph flowers and plants are:
- Giles Rhododendron Garden
- Rose and Perennial Garden
- Burpee Kitchen Garden
- Learner Garden of the Five Senses

The website also has a cool “What’s in Bloom Section” that will keep you informed of what is in bloom each month of the year.
The botanical gardens are open from 9am – 5pm all year round. The admission price is a bit steep at $14 per person. There is also a restaurant at the garden where you can have lunch or a beverage.
Photographers, makes sure you read the Policies and Guidelines Page. The botanical garden maintains the rights to your photos for professional purposes. They are asking for a $250 payment for you to use your own images for professional purposes. Unfortunately, this is becoming more common for botanical gardens to charge a fee for photographers who sell their photography.
