Is the Calf Mountain Trail in Shenandoah worth it for Landscape Photographers?
Shenandoah National Park has numerous overlooks and trails but which hikes should you choose for photography photography?
Calf Mountain Summit
I hiked the 2 mile (round trip) to the summit of Little Calf Mountain in the peak autumn foliage season and was disappointed by the view at the top of Little Calf Mountain. I’m writing this short blog to keep others from making the same mistake.
The summit of Calf Mountain is a mowed down field but the view is block by large trees around the summit that doesn’t rank as high as the other beautiful vistas in Shenandoah National Park. Two alternative trails with beautiful vistas are the Loft Mountain Loop Trail and Stony Man Trail.
Autumn Berries in Shenandoah National Park

However, Calf Mountain is a nice short hike and is a good hike to bring along your macro lens. I found ferns, fungi, berries, wildflowers, and red leaved vines climbing tree trunks, all which provide good macro photography compositions.
